Ronaldo lays down Drogba challenge

Cristiano Ronaldo has told Didier Drogba that he will come in for some tough competition if he thinks he is going to run away with the player of the year award.

The Portuguese international says that after achieving success for the team he wants to win some personal honours and thinks that he is playing just as well as the Blues striker.

He said: “Drogba appears very convinced about winning the top awards but it’s not always the goals that decide these things.

“I sincerely believe that I am a good option. My objective is to score more goals to help United and not to enter into a war with Drogba. I always search for success for the team.”

Ronaldo has scored 12 goals in 19 Premiership appearances so far this season and has been terrorising full-backs up and down the country.

Having felt the wrath of English fans following his involvement in Wayne Rooney’s sending-off during the World Cup Ronaldo has bounced back and shown the form of his life.

He is targeting awards both at home and on the world stage, saying: “I warn you that I do desire to win many, many competitions. I repeat: 2007 is going to be my big year.”
